What is a service like?
Welcome! Chances are if you clicked ‘I'm new’, you're new here and trying to figure out what we’re all about. Well, you will find ARISE to be pretty laid back. Dress attire ranges from jeans & t-shirts, to sports coats. Our worship gatherings are held at 1604 Selmser Ave. We moved into an old church building, pervious known as The Rock Church. We have done some updates, but overall it's still a cozy place to gather and worship Jesus.
When you arrive, you can drop your kids off downstairs or continue straight ahead and go up a few steps and enjoy some awesome ARISE coffee and grab a donut or something yummy. When the onscreen timer reaches zero, it’s time to find a seat. Worship begins with some praise music, greeting, and a moment to say “hi” to your neighbors. Children K-3rd are dismissed during the greeting time to go downstairs for ARISE Kids. We have a crying "barn" near the back of the sanctuary that is available for small children and nursing moms. However, we love babies, so don't feel you need to "hide away". If you would rather have your children stay in the sanctuary with you, we would love that. We have some activity bags available for them.
After the greeting, it’s time for the sermon. The sermon transitions into a time of response in communion, prayer, singing, and giving. Everyone is invited to respond to the message however the Spirit leads them. Usually, the music team will return and lead a few more praise songs. The service ends with a word of encouragement or quick prayer "go and live in thankful response to the finished work of Jesus." Parents can pick up their kids downstairs after worship.
IT'S ALL ABOUT JESUS
Our hope in preaching at Arise is that we preach Jesus powerfully and led by the Holy Spirit. We know that Jesus is convicting, compelling, forgiving, redeeming and amazing and we long to preach Him in that way! He is the reason we come to worship. Through the Bible we learn more about Jesus: who He is, what He did, and what our response to Him should be.
Occasionally, we do a topical sermon series, but walking through a book of the Bible, verse by verse, is our norm. Most of our recent sermons are online, so you can check them out for yourself.
IT'S NOT JUST MUSIC
At ARISE we believe the Bible, and the Bible says that our lives are to be lived out as an act of worship (Rom 12:1). We love worshipping Jesus through serving, giving our offerings, praying, taking communion with each other, and doing all things for His glory.(1 Cor 10:31)
Although music is one of the ways God has wired us to feel emotions in unique ways we recognize music does not bring us closer to God ...nothing can get you closer to God than Jesus’ death already has. At Arise we love to sing praise to Jesus. Singing praise to Jesus is a privilege as we get a chance to respond to the person and work of our Lord and Savior. For us, music is simply another form of worship.
The Bible is not a collection of stories. It's one story, the story of God’s plan to rescue His people from sin and death. It is the story of redemption, the gospel message of Jesus Christ. It is the story of God's never stopping, never giving up, unbreaking, always and forever love. And it’s our story, too.
WHAT TO EXPECT
At ARISE we love kids. We consider it a great privilege to get to teach and lead these little lives. We don’t offer our kid’s programming because we want to get the kids out of the sanctuary, kids are always welcome to stay. However, we recognize that often kids learn better when things are presented in a way they can more easily understand.
Held downstairs, the small classes and large group format has a VBS (Vacation Bible School) feel to it. We use music, video, games, crafts, and stories to convey the specifics of the Bible as well as the overarching message that the whole Bible is about Jesus. We welcome all kids, but specifically birth through elementary school. Parents are welcome to pop in and see what it’s all about. We also have a nursery available for the wee ones.
